What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Left Foot After An Ankle Injury?

Hi. On Wednesday October 5th I had fallen and torn a ligament in my left ankle. That s what the doctor had told me. Then yesterday I fell and hurt the same ankle tripping on my son s toy. This time the doctor told me I had sprained it. But now my entire foot is swollen and the pain isn t easing up. I m wondering if the doctor misdiagnosed or if I just need to give it more time. c

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

If you have been able to put your weight on your foot (although it is painful) when the injury happened, it is just a sprained ankle. If not, or if it is not getting better, I suggest you have an x-ray of the ankle.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon
