Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling And Indentation On Calf Upon Pressing Post Injury?
Injured calf muscle after football injury. Extremely painful, very swollen, red, sore and painful to touch. Couldn t walk on it for about 3 days. Bruising has come out after a week, still swollen and but less painful. When touched or poked I am left with indents from any pressure applied. Haven t seeked any medical advise as just assumed it was a muscle strain.
Red, painful swelling appearing immediately following injury suggests a contusion / hematoma. This can be treated with analgesics like ibuprofen (3 times a day after food), ice application and rest for 3-5 days.
If symptoms are not coming down in 3 days or fever appears, this can suggest secondary infection that will need antibiotic treatment, and sometimes drainage of any pus. For this, your doctor will guide.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
