What Causes Swelling And Bulging Of Veins Inside Mouth?
Hi I am a healthy 57 yr old woman and noticed I have a swollen, bulging vein (1 1/2 "l) in my mouth, between my top and bottom teeth and radiates toward the mouth opening. It was not there this afternoon and suddenly appeared. I thought it was a cold sore but when I opened my mouth to chech it is definitely a blood vessel. Should I be alarmed? I take no medications and about to catch a flight in a couple of hours. Thanks, js
Thanks for your query .The symptom you mention in query is pointing towards a condition known as linea alba ,which is a horizontal bulging line on cheek .It usual occur due to cheek bite or irritation due to any dental appliance or sharp edges of teeth ,which become red due to fresh injury.
Usually the don't require any treatment and go away by there own .What you can do is visit a dentist to get your bite correct.Doctor may also grind sharp edges of teeth and correct appliance if you have.
Do warm saline gargles .If condition doesn't get better consult dentist/oral pathologist for proper examination and to rule out condition like hemangioma or varix.
Hope your concern has been resolved. Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
