What Causes Swelling And A Hard Lump After Undergoing Surgery For Anal Fistula?

My partner recently had an operation on an anal fistula, the wound has healed and all was well until today he noticed that the buttock cheek on the same side is swollen and there is a hard lump present. Could this be an infection? Note that the original cause of the anal fistula was the removal of an abscess that did not heal.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
It seems that there might be having one sinus not drained and opened might give rise this problem.
In fustula there are few sinuses which opened in anal canal and out side.
At the time of operation all sinuses should open up and drained.
Consult your treating surgeon and discuss about this matter.
Ok and take care.
