What Causes Sudden Vomiting And Diarrhea?

My husband is a 60 year old male, has sudden onset of vomiting and diarrhea this morning and it still happening. No fever, no chills. We have eaten similar items in the last 24 hours so I don't think its food poisoning unless it can come on after 24 hours?
