What Causes Sudden Sensing Of Burnt Smell?

Occasionally I can be sitting in a meeting at work or at home sitting eating a meal or just simply out of the blue get a real prominent smoke smell and there is no smoke around. It does not last long- maybe 10 to 15 minutes at a time....what could be causing this?

Your suffering from Phantosmia The sensation of an odor that isn't there.

Phantosmia may occur after a head injury or upper respiratory infection. It can also be caused by temporal lobe seizures, inflamed sinuses, brain tumors and Parkinson's disease.

Consult your doctor if you experience the symptoms of phantosmia, so that your doctor can rule out any serious underlying disorders that may be causing the detected smell.
