What Causes Sudden Rise In Fasting Blood Sugar Level After Eating?

Hi dear doctor My mother is a diabetics for 7 years. And take 70/30 insulin every day; morning 20 Iu/ml - evening 40 iu/ml. Here is the thing: My mother s FBS is normal(80), but after meal(2hpp) is high, around 209. HbA1c: 6.6 Everything is normal, cholestrol, fbs, triglyceride... everything, apparently. question : What s wrong with her 2hpp? She is 48 , bmi 29 and her a1c was 6.6 as tested last week. thank you for helping me. Thank you in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

- Since your mother's HbA1c is 6.6, I feel that her diabetic control is adequate at this point
- The general goal for someone with diabetes is a 2hpp of less than 180mg/dl
She is slightly above that limit. But I am not too concerned. You can explore the option of adding a short acting insulin before meals to control the post prandial rise in glucose. I don't believe it is necessary at this point.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
