What Causes Sudden Pain In Groin Area, Left-sided Tenderness And Slight Swelling?

Hi, about 8 months ago, while cycling to work, I experienced a sudden pain in my right groin area, just above the pubic area and at the side. The pain disappeared after half an hour, but I was left with an uncomfortable feeling. I visited my doctor and was physically checked for hernia, enlarged prostate and testicular lumps. There did not appear to be a problem. I then experienced a similar condition on the left side. I was checked at the hospital for testicular lumps using ultrasound. Again, nothing to see. I am now experiencing a tenderness in the left side, and there appears to be a slight swelling at the limit of the pubic/abdominal area, left side only, which I had not noticed before. It is not painful when pressed. I am male (obviously!) and 47 years old.
