What Causes Sudden Pain And Swelling In Right Hand?

Hi..I have a sudden onset of right hand swelling. And pain..I woke up like this today. It goes into the wrist. I cannot make a tight fist and I have no grip strength. There has been no injury and I have no prior health conditions. What could be causing this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

This may be caused by hand cellulitis especially if there was previous bite or pricj so that infection came in. otherwise it may be tendinitis or arthritis. I suggest to apply ice, take painkillers and keep arm elevated. If there is progression nyou ll need antibiotics and ER referral.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
