What Causes Sudden Onset Of Redness And Swelling In A Toe?
I was watching TV several nights ago, and I had a sensation that the toe beside the big toe on my left foot was curling downward. I continued to watch TV, and when I went to bed, I looked at the toe and was surprised that it was swollen and red. It is the top of the toe below the nail area. It is still red and swollen. It s Day 4 of this condition. What can be causing this? Should I see a doctor? I am a diabetic.

Hi
Thanks for posting your query.
I went through your query and I can understand your concern.
If it is insect bite it will resolve in 2-3 days more . But if the redness or swelling is increasing , it means the insect bite has resulted in infection which requires antibiotics treatment.
The other possibility if there is no resolution in 2-3 days is Gout. This is a condition where there will be increase in Uric Acid which accumulates in the joint causing pain and redness. For confirmation of this condition you need a test called Serum Uric Acid. Kindly get it done if no improvement in 2-3 days.
Hope this information was useful to you. Any clarification feel free to ask.
