What Causes Sudden Onset Of Chapped Lips?

Hi, a few weeks ago I had a sudden onset of severely dry, chapped lips. It s mainly my top lip where it s super dry and tender and a little cracked and one area has a very scaly dry feeling to it. I constantly have to put chapstick in order to feel any comfort. I ve never had this happen before and I m not allergic to anything. Do you know what the problem could be?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history of chapped lips.
My treatment advice is -
1. Don't scratch the lips by tongue as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply an emollient cream like Enmoist cream twice daily on it.
3. Take a vitamin b12 supplement once daily for 1 month.
4. Other treatment options are oral multivitamins, topical steroid cream given only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
Dr. Harshit bhachech.
