What Causes Sudden Numbness And Redness On The Hand?

I was standing talking to a colleague and carrying my brief case across my shoulders when I suddenly noticed a slight numbness and redness (almost purple really) in my hand. I unloaded the brief case only to notice the redness in the other hand. There ws no pain or discomfort. Condition lasted for 20 or so minutes and all is fine again. I am in excellent general health and I particpated in nothing strenuous or excpetional today. Do I need to worry here?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Carrying a briefcase must have compressed a blood vessel causing interruption of blood supply to hand. This led to purple and numbness. As it has recovered, nothing to worry.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Loveleen Sharma, General & Family Physician
