hi, my girlfriend just died because of low blood sugar. she was taken to the hospital and after test they said her blood sugar was 9, she had no brain activity. What would cause this so suddenly, she was over weight but not a diebetic. She was 59 years old
hypoglycemia can be caused by various conditions, although the most common ones are related to antidiabetic treatment. It could be drugs that lower blood glucose like antidiabetic pills. Are you absolutely certain that she didn't have diabetes? Many patients may withhold such information because they don't want to feel "defective". Other drugs that may cause hypoglycemia is paracetamol (overdosage and liver damage) and various other regimens that no healthy person uses.
It could be excessive alcohol consumption. Alcohol has a toxic effect on the liver and binge drinking may result in hypoglycemia, although not so severe (usually).
It could be a tumor that produced insulin (insulinoma) and other endocrinological causes. The most pronounced hypoglycemia by endocrinological causes is attributed to insulinomas. These are tumors that produce insulin even when it's not needed. Insulin causes hypoglycemia.
So in conclusion, I've presented you some potential causes of her problem. I can't say what went wrong with her obviously, I'm just suggesting possible causes.
I hope I've helped!
Kind Regards!
