Hi my son has Dwayne s syndrome and they recently found his eyes stutter. On looking closer they have found that his optic near is pale and looking abnormal and want to do a MRI scan. What are the doctors thinking this could be? He mentioned a tumour, or he said there are several other things they could be. Pediatrician, Hematology Oncology 's  Response
hi,
as he is having down syndrome, the risk of cancers are slightly higher for him. its strongly recommended to proceed for MRI if optic nerve is not looking OK. not only cancer but optic atrophy and sometime other infections can cause paleness of optic nerve. let his undergo the scan and discuss with your doctor in detail after report.

Pediatrician Dr. Svetlana Shrivastva's  Response
Hello dear,
Thank you for your query. I understand your concern. There are lots of factors contribute to stuttering, including:

Hereditary: About 60% of those who stutter have a close family member who stutters.
Developmental delays,language problems.
Differences in the brain's processing of language: People who stutter process language in different areas of the brain. And there's a problem with the way the brain's messages interact with the muscles and body parts needed for speaking.
High/increased activity level.
Rapid rate of speech.
I think you should not worry about stuttering his speech will become normal, you an do him MRl to rule out others diagnoses.
Take care
