What Causes Stomach Upset And Heart Burn While On Prednisone?
I went to urgent care on Wednesday with hives and swelling, there they prescribed Prednisone. I took three pills Wednesday night and three pills throughout the day yesterday with a minor upset stomach. Last night I woke up with the upset stomach getting worse and heartburn. I took a Pepsid this morning. As the morning went on my stomach pain grew to a 9 on a scale of 1-10 and I started throwing up also. I called my GP and she told me to take 2 Prilosec. I haven t taken the Prednisone at all today for fear that it will aggravate my stomach again. I now have heartburn again when I lay down. Any suggestions?

Prednisolone sometimes causes inflammation of gastric mucosa when it is consumed empty stomach.
Advice
1. Omeprazole 20 mg every 12 hours per oral empty stomach for 10 days
2. Domperidone 10 mg per oral when you feel nausea
3. Stop prednisolone
4. Leveocetirizine 5 mg daily per oral for 5 days if you still have hives. Otherwise avoid it
5. Avoid alcohol, smoking, spicy food, and non-steroidal pain killer for few days
6. Avoid eating 3 hours before lying down
7. Raise the head of your bed
If you do not get relief after above measures then contact your doctor.
