What Causes Stomach Pain Below The Ribs Along With Belching?

I have severe stomach pain in the middle, right below my ribs. I have gas (belching) but mostly constant pain like someone slugged me in the stomach and it won t stop hurting. The only relief I get is if I eat something small and it helps but then just comes back. This has been going on for weeks now. Help!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Based on your description, you may have GERD (gastroesophageal reflux) or gastritis (inflammation/irritation of the stomach).

Treatment would involve lifestyle changes in diet as well as medication.

In terms of the diet, you would need to: (1) avoid- spicy, acid foods,
(2) use small meals
(3)avoid onion, mint, caffeine, tomatoes
(4)wait 2 hours after eating before laying down

Medications include nexium, prevacid, prilosec, protonix etc

I hope this helps
