What Causes Stomach Pain And Loose Stools?

Ny 7 year old daughter has had stomach aches for the passed couple of days. Today, she told me that she had a hard time pooping and this was then followed by VERY loose feces. What kind of a problem might this be? She had a low grade fever over the weekend.

Hi,

There are several possible causes of stomach pain and loose stools in a child. These can include:
* Gastroenteritis: This is a common infection that causes diarrhea and vomiting. It is caused by a virus, bacteria, or parasite. It can be accompanied by stomach pain, cramps, and fever.
* Food intolerance or allergy: Certain foods can cause digestive problems, such as stomach pain and diarrhea, in children who are intolerant or allergic to them. Some of the common food allergens are wheat, milk, eggs and peanuts.
* Constipation: If a child has difficulty passing stool, this can cause abdominal pain and discomfort. Eventually, this can lead to loose stools as the body tries to expel the accumulated feces.
* Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): This is a condition that can cause chronic stomach pain, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation.
* Other infections: Some other infections, such as a urinary tract infection, can cause stomach pain and loose stools.

It is important to monitor your daughter's symptoms and seek medical attention if they persist or worsen. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause of the symptoms. Antibiotics are used to treat infections. If it is related to food intolerance or allergy, your doctor may recommend eliminating certain foods from your child's diet. In the case of constipation, changes in diet and lifestyle, such as increasing fiber and water intake, may be recommended.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
