What Causes Stomach Gas And Bloating After An Angioplasty?

My father is 63 yrs old. He has an ischemic heart condition and has undergone an angioplasty last year. Though his heart condition is now better, he frequently complains (nearly every day) of gas in his stomach. It is also at times very evident as the tummy swells up. Tests (Ultrasound, endoscopy, LFT) have been done regularly without any result.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your 63 years old Father and understood your concerns.
It is obvious that angioplasty a year back is most probably not related to the gas trouble with bloating that your Father has.
The causes can be as follows:
Gas producing bacterial overgrowth.
Anxiety causing aerophagia.
Intolerance to certain food constituents like any nuts can cause similar problems.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get a consultation of your Family Doctor for probable anxiety and proper counselling and management as needed.
Get the stool tests done.
A course of an antibiotic active against intestinal infection, metronidazole and probiotics usually helps a lot.
Also needed is to observe which foods and beverages are the causative factors and stop these altogether.
Anxiety about heart condition is also one of the most important factor and thus should be considered and counselled about.
