What Causes Stomach Cramps, Sweating And Fainting Episode?

What may cause stomach cramps, sweating, and feeling faint? I was out to dinner last night and half way through the meal I developed a stomach ache, started sweating, mostly in my face and neck, and then had the feeling of almost blacking out. I had drank a little water, and did not have alcohol. I am 72 yr. old female, who takes lisinopril 5mg. and 10mg. of atorvastatin. The waitress brought me ice in a towel, which I placed on the back of my neck and then forehead. I felt a tiny bit better. Then she brought me.a Glass of orange juice and within 4 swallows, I felt much better, and no longer felt like blacking out.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the episode you went through.

Stomach cramps are related to foods you ate in the restaurant that might have caused hyperacidity.

As you had also sweating indigestion could be a possible cause.

Another possible cause is due to oscillations in blood sugar levels (hypoglycaemia ) as you felt better after taking a glass of orange juice.

I advise to avoid skipping your meals and to monitor your bsl through fasting /oral glucose tolerance tests and HbA1C.

If everything is fine, then further consultation with gastroenterologist is advised to evaluate your stomach.

All the best!
