What Causes Stomach Ache And Severe Acid Reflux?

I have had excess stomach acid production for about a month now. I have dull pain in my stomach and burning acid-like pain when I defecate. Antacids and acid reducers help, but the excess acid seems to be unstoppable. My doctor thinks it might be gallstones but I am not at risk for them (normal cholesterol, normal bilirubin 1.0). I am getting an ultrasound on Monday, but I am not hopeful.

What could be causing this?

Hello. I just saw your concern.

Going for an ultrasound is not a bad idea when you are going through so much trouble. Anyhow it help in making the picture more clear.
Anyhow, after reading your symptoms it is very clear to me that you are suffering from acute gastritis.

The reasons of acidity are:

1. The food you are eating is not completely digesting
2. You are taking more acidic foods in your diet
3. You take too much stress

The main culprits of acidity are considered - Hurry, Worry and Curry. Try to avoid these 3 causative agents and you will feel much better.

However I would make you a list of Do's and Dont's

•     Eat fruits and vegetables rich in fibers to help proper digestion
•     Avoid spicy foods rich in oils and fats. These foods are difficult to digest and releases more acidity
•     Avoid sour foods, onions, red meats and strong drinks such as tea and coffee
•     Also avoid excessive smoking and alcohol
•     Avoid eating acidic foods like pickles, curds, tamarinds, vinegar, etc
•     Do not eat fried, fatty, junk foods and excessive chocolates
•     Eat carbohydrate rich food like rice. They are easy to digest with no acid formation
•     Take your dinner 2-3 hours before sleeping time as it keeps you healthy
•     Eat fruits like cucumber, watermelon, papaya, and banana. They are helpful in eliminating acidity

It has been found that acidity usually tends to occur in one of the following conditions:
•     After meals
•     During the nighttime while lying on the bed
•     While exerting pressure on the intra-abdominal area.

So I would strongly suggest you to make a routine of walk of 15mins after meals daily without any gap. It will help in digesting your food.

Practice Yoga and Pranayama such as Vajrasana, Bhujangasana, Salabhasana, Bhastrika Pranayama,Shitali Pranayama and Shitkari Pranayama. For reference you can see Baba ramdev's videos.

•Eat fruits like apple, watermelon and banana
•Avoid fried food, pickle, hot and spicy food
•Take your meals on time
•Drink plenty of water
•Don’t skip your meals.
•Avoid garlic, onion, pepper, radish and cabbage
•Eat green and leafy vegetables

I will suggest you some home remedies. Please try to follow them :

1. Take powder of roasted cumin and coriander seeds (25 gm each) and mix with 50 gm of sugar. Take half spoon of it 3 times a day to get rid of pain occurred due to acidity.
2. Herbal tea containing spearmint (pudina) and liquorice (mulethi) is also beneficial instead of normal tea, coffee and other aerated drinks.
3. Drink 100-500 ml of tender coconut water twice a day for relief from acidity.
4. Mix equal parts of powdered fennel, licorice root, basil leaves and coriander seeds. Have ½ teaspoon of this mixture with ½ teaspoon of powdered rock candy (or unrefined sugar) 15 minutes before lunch and dinner. It will help in digesting your food naturally.
5. After having your food do a walk of atleast 15 mins daily. Do not miss it.
6. Live a stress free life.
7. Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise is an old and highly beneficial phrase. This good habit will prevent and control acidity.
8. When ever you feel bloating in your stomach...take 1/4 glass of water add 1/4 tsf of baking soda, 2 pinch of black pepper, 1 one pinch of black salt and half lemon. Drink it very very slowly. You have to finish the whole medicine in half an hour. Drink it sip by sip.

Try to add these moderations in your lifestyle and enjoy the change.

I hope this helps you.
Wish you a speedy recovery.

Thanks
