To exclude meningitis one should consult a Neurologist who apart from neck stiffness will look for associated symptoms like: fever,headache, neurological signs [weakness of cranial nerves/limbs] and order a C.T.Scan Brain. As infection is the most important cause of pneumococcal meningitis, and bronchitis is also a type of pneumococcal infection [although mild] thus can confuse the physician as well as diagnosis, so you must visit healthcare physician to determine whether you are to be kept under observation or requires hospitalization after suitable blood tests.
