What Causes Stiffness And Pain In The Knees And Ankles?

I am having trouble with my knees/legs. Both pop, snap and crackle but the right knee is beginning to stay stiff. If I stay on my feet for very long, my legs begin to sting and burn from my ankles to my knees. My knees seem to begin to lock up with the right one being worse. Sometimes, I am awaken with pain in knees. It is hard for me to shop, walk, get up out of chairs, stairs are totally out of the picture. At times, my knees seem to want to bend the opposite way causing me to fall. I have not been to a doctor about this due to I am a cash pay until I can get medicare, take OTC arthritis pills, I am yrs 64 yrs old, retired, somewhat overweight and the pain is getting worse.
