What Causes Spreading Dry, Itchy Patches Of Redness On The Inner Side Of The Legs?

I have dry, itchy patches of redness on the insides of both legs that started at the ankles and is now spreading above the knees. Topical cremes and antihistimines help, but the patches seem to be spreading. I thought it might be an allergic reaction or contact dermatitis, but it has been there almost a month.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I would keep a possibility of fungal infection/Tinea.

Clinically it presents as itchy, red, scaly patches with central clearing and peripheral extension.

Diagnosis is clinical. However, a KOH scraping can be performed from the scale to confirm the diagnosis.

Once confirmed with KOH, I would suggest an OTC topical antifungal e.g clotrimazole cream, twice daily for 4-6 weeks.

An oral antifungal may also be started e.g fluconazole 150 mg once every week for 4-6 weeks

An OTC antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10mg once daily would provide you symptomatic relief from itching.

Regards
