What Causes Spotting Years After Removing The Uterus?

I had my uterus removed in 1999 and never had a period after the surgery. I am now 53 and starting spotting last month. I feel mild cramping like I am ovulating and I can see more blood after a bowel movement coming from the vagina. I feel a soreness there as if I was wearing a tampon for the first time, could this be coming from the thickening of the cervix because I am near menopause?
