What Causes Spotting Post Menopause?

Hi, I am 3 years post menopause. I am having some light pink spotting as well as passing light pink pieces of tissue when urinating occasionally. No pain at all when urinating. But I am having lower back pain. I have an exam scheduled for mid January, should I see a Doctor before then? Any idea what this could be? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Post menopausal spotting or bleeding is a matter of concern which might be related to number of condition like infection or inflammation of the genitourinary tract, Cervical or uterine disease like uterine fibroids or cervical cancer.

I would advise you for a battery of investigations like blood for CBC, ESR, liver function test and urine culture or an ultrasound if need be, to rule out infection first which seems to be high possibility in your case.

Meanwhile you should maintain good hygiene, have lots of fluids which will help by flushing off the urogenital tract. Analgesic like Diclofenac or Paracetamol is advisable for lower backache. In addition to drugs correct your posture and gait, stretching exercises are also recommended.

Hope this answers your question please feel free to ask for follow up question I will gladly answer you. Wishing you good health and speedy recovery.

Regards,
