What Causes Spots On Kneecap?

My 13yr old has had a very rough circle of spots on his kneecap for a yr or so,they were sharp to touch. Last night I had squeezed a spot which was uncomfortable for him and a large blackhead came out from quite a few of them. Maybe around 30 from both knees. Now how would he get this on his knee and what is it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible the area is infected with a fungal infection, this is typically circular in shape.

Some fungal infections can become infected with bacteria as well.

Using a topical anti fungal would help eg miconazole, econazole, ketoconazole. It can take 2 to 3 weeks in some cases for a fungal infection to clear up.

If there is suspected bacterial infection then an antibacterial cream would also be needed eg bactroban, neosporin, fucidin

I hope this helps
