What Causes Spitting Up Of Blood?

I m really worried about my husband, he seems to be having events where blood comes out of his mouth randomly. He spits up saliva and 95% of it is blood. I don t know a lot about this due to distance issues but I try to warn him that this can be very serious. I want to find this out on my own and see if we could figure out and take care of this problem before it leads to something worse. What could be wrong?

Hi I did review your concern mam. Spitting up blood can be due to many causes. First we need to confirm whether he spits blood in cough(hemoptysis) or its blood with vomiting(hematemesis). first one is from lungs and second one is from stomach or food pipe. it can be due to varying reasons, If he is a chronic smoker or alcoholic it can also be a sign of something worrisome. Coughing up blood can be due to infection or tumor.
vomiting up blood can be due to chronic liver problem causing portal hypertension or gastric ulcer.
I would recommend you to ask him to see a physician who can better determine the cause of his problem.
