My wonderful doctor prescribed Benzonate for my upper respiratory infection, and I take it 3 X daily. My problem is that she left for vacation yesterday, Friday, July 14, and while the Benzonate works, there are large gaps in the day when it doesn t. What can I use to reduce my congestion? My muscles are very sore in my chest and back from coughing, and I m terribly uncomfortable. Please don t recommend that I go to my local hospital which is a marginally incompetent facility or suggest that I ask for an on call doctor from my PCP s office. I know that staff too well to do this. (I m a medical activist.) Perhaps there s an over-the-counter med I can use. I m currently taking Ventolin spray, Furosemide, once daily, Benzonate 3 X daily, anti-biotic eye drops 4X daily and Guaifenisen twice daily. I have certain allergies I ll share with you.
