Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Soreness In The Arm Where Insulin Is Injected?
A burn looking mark has appeared on my outer rotor cuff on my shoulder . I did not burn myself however it is peeling and appearing to be a sunburn . It is not a sunburn given my shoulder has not been exposed to any sunlight or heat. My skin temperature in that area was taken at 108 degrees Fahrenheit . I do however use insulin needles and make injections in that area into the muscle. I didn t notice it immediately after an injection until I was changing clothes one day, it has been there 7-9 days without giving any signs of getting better and going away. Since this burn looking mark has appeared it has caused much painful soreness to my arm and gives off all symptoms of a peeling sunburn. Could anyone help me figure out what mark has appeared on my arm and what I can do to take care of it properly?

Hi there..looks like your regular injection site is a little sore. So, change the site of injection to the area of skin just above the knee subcutaneously. If the older site area has gone sore, I suggest you watch the site for a few days, for pain you can take tab. brufen and if it seems sore and bruised, a course of antibiotic oral cefipime for five days will suffice.keep the area protected by applying a thin sterile gauze. I hope this answers your question. Take care.
