Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 63 and in good health but I got a cold about 2 months ago and it didn t want to go away but it finally seemed to. But then I started to get occasional soreness around my chest wall so I went to emergency who eventually diagnosed it as a lung issue and gave me antibiotics which seemed to deal with the chest soreness but shortly after that about 2 weeks ago, I noticed that I was getting shorter and shorter of my breath. Before this I could do 20 min of excersize without stopping but now I am out of breath in a few minutes and need to rest. And my shortness of breath seems to be getting worse. I went to my doctor who has booked me for a lung capacity test in 2 or 3 weeks but if it keeps getting worse, I don t think that I can wait that long.
I agree, I don't think that you should wait that long since the shortness of breath is worsening. You should be assessed as soon as possible. Both the lung function and the heart function need to be assessed. This would require both physical examination and investigations such as the lung function tests and possibly an echo as well. Treatment would depend on the cause found.
I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
