Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Soreness Around The Area Of Anaesthesia In Lower Jaw?
I had a filling replaced in my back lower molar a week ago. My jaw (at or near the site of the anesthesia, I think) has continued to be sore, but today (8 days later), it s suddenly much worse. I can t open my mouth more than about 1/2 inch, and it hurts even when I m trying to relax my jaw. Advil doesn t seem to be helping much.
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query. The limited mouth opening can be because of the trauma to muscle fibres by the needle during injecting local anesthesia. The other possible cause can be temporomandibular joint disorder secondary to long standing mouth opening during dental procedure. Nothing to be panic, consult a oral physician and get it evaluated. Mean while you can take an analgesic like ibuprofen and muscle relaxant like chlorzoxazone(if you are not allergic). Do saline gargling. I hope my answer will help you, take care.
