What Causes Soreness And Pain On Scalp?

My 4year old son has repeatedly (but a year since the last time) gotten a dime sized sore on his scalp. It doesn t spread, but every time is crusted (and is in his hair) with yellow dried yuck. If we pull the gunk off it is a red oozy like hard sore. It is very painful for us to touch it. Lots of hydrogen peroxide, ocean water and about 2months got rid of it last time. What is it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Honey colored crusting with blood or pus discharge indicates a bacterial infection called impetigo. Impetigo is common among children. Antibiotics such as Mupirocin should be locally applied. Any scab should be carefully removed before applying the cream in order to increase the absorption.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
