What Causes Sore Throat And Swelling In The Tongue And Gums?
Hello my husband has had a swollen tongue and a sore throat for a few days.now his gums are swollen and of course with them inflamed his teeth hurt . Should he see a dentist or a general physician and would you have an idea what it could be? I checked his throat there are no puss pockets like strep throat .
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain the symptoms of swollen tongue, sore throat along with swelling and pain in gums and teeth seems to be most probably due to viral infection while it can also be due to some unknown allergen..
Consult a Dentist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like oral and throat swab culture, blood test and IgG levels can help in diagnosis and treated accordingly..
As of now you can take supportive therapy like anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine, suck ice pops and do warm saline gargles.. You can also consult an Emergency room who can give you prescription of oral and injectable steroids to reduce swelling.. Take a soft diet and avoid spicy food..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
