What Causes Sore Throat Along With Fever And Headache?

Hello. I was prescribed augmentin three days ago for an ear infection. That was not my initial complaint however. I have had an extremely sore throat for 2 weeks along with a fever, headache, coughing,loss of voice chills nausea and occasional vomiting. The sore throat has subsided but still have all other symptoms. What s going on ?

Hi,

It can be an upper respiratory infection. However, can be due to the progress of infection to lower respiratory tract or there can be superseded bacterial infection.

You should consult a Physician or an Emergency room and get evaluated and a blood test and if needed a chest x-ray or sputum culture can be done for confirmation.

For now, you can continue antibiotic Augmentin and along with it take Acetaminophen and Mucinex cough syrup. Drink warm water, do warm saline gargles and steam inhalations.

Avoid spicy and irritant foods. Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily.
