What Causes Sore Throat Along With Cough And Shortness Of Breath?

I recently flew from Seattle to Amman,Jordan. I had severe jet lag. I fell asleep upon getting to my destination and I woke up after a long 15hour sleep with a sore throat. This quickly moved into a wet Phlegmy cough that lasted for 20 days. I had wheezing that felt like my lungs couldn t let go of the cough. It finally was getting better when I flew home. I had tiredness and shorteness of breath when I exerted myself. I feel better now but will be baby sitting my 10month old granddaughter who had RSV when she was 4 months old. now she gets sick every other month with congestion that requires monitoring. Did I have pneumonia? How can I protect myself from getting ill again?

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sore throat along with cough and shortness of breath. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like COPD symptoms , acute bronchitis , acid reflux , asthmatic condition , sleeping apnea or upper respiratory infection. Avoid intake of spicy food. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. For now eat light at night , take benadryl twice a day and keep your head elevated while lying down. I would suggest you to consult pulmonologist for proper examination. Doctor may order chest x-ray, blood test and check vitals along with vitals. Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist for upper respiratory tract infection or post nasal drip or allergy specialist for asthma. Take steam twice a day.
