What Causes Sore Throat After A Dental Procedure?

I went back to my dentist today because my new upper dentures were hurting the palate of my mouth. The dentist filed the back of dentures and it seem to be ok. in a few hours, my throat became sore again. I had just been to primary dr. and was told my throat was red but no infection.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As you have got new dentures placed then the most probable cause for sore throat can be the extension of the upper denture going too far towards the soft palate causing irritation and sore throat..

The throat is red due to inflammation..

So you need to go back to your Dentist and get the post palatal seal area of the denture checked and if it it too deep towards the throat get it trimmed and thinned..

As of now to reduce soreness and redness you can do warm saline gargles and take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen..
Limit the use of denture till it is appropriately manipulated to proper size..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
