What Causes Sore Jaw Muscles And Swollen Eyes?

My jaw muscles are extremely sore every day. It is not the bone, but the muscles. I am a smoker and trying to quit, thinking the constant sucking motion may be attributing. In the mornings, it is extremely painful and my eyes are now swollen when I wake up. It also seem to make me very tired.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have swollen jaw muscles and eyes which is mainly due to facial nerve pressure or impingement. Due to smoking and other aggravating factors your oral hygiene gets suffered and any carious lesion of oral cavity putting pressure on nerve which is the main supplier to jaw, eye, lips and leads to your symptoms.

I would suggest you to quit smoking first. Maintain proper oral hygiene. Do mouth stretching exercises such as blow in and out. Try to blow whistle and check if air passes or not. Visit dentist once and get oral cavity examined properly and start treatment as per cause of impingement.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
