What Causes Sore And Cracked Lips?

I had this once before. I have sore like chapped lips, but they are not chapped. They burn and are sore and cracked in the corners. They like burn when I eat. The tip of my tongue also burns as well as the inside of my lips. My taste is off. The burning is made worse when eating anything with any little bit of seasoning at all. I think I have candidis also. Is this connected.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of sore and cracked lips along with burning in mouth which seems to be due to dry mouth( xerostomia), excessive licking, biting and sucking of lips as it will remove natural covering of the skin.

Nutritional deficiency could be an exaggeration factor for your condition such as deficiency of vitamin B12.

I would like to suggest you to

- Stop licking your lips.

- Avoid sharp and fried food.

- Drink lots of water.

- Use mild steroid cream.

- Add lots of green vegetables and fruits to your diet.

Visit dentist once if symptoms keeps on persisting and start treatment accordingly.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
