What Causes Sneezing, Running Nose And Severe Cough In A Child?

My 2.5 year old has been sneezing a bit lately , sounded a bit congested yesterday (not too bad though) with minimally runny nose and woke up today coughing a lot and no voice - she has to whisper. Her cough is not seal-like sound. What is this? Should I worry? Does she need medical attention?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
i can understand your concern
she must be having upper respiratory tract infection like tonsillitis or pharyngitis with vocal cord involvement
this can develop due to bacterial or viral infection and an allergic reaction

in my opinion you should immediately take her to a paediatrician for clinical examination and a battery of tests like blood for hemoglobin CBC ESR and CRP ( c reactive protein)

She may require a course of antibiotics and decongestant medicines under supervision of your doctor

I hope you will find my response helpful and informative
please don't hesitate to ask for further clarification if need be
best wishes
