What Causes Small Red Spot On The Shaft Of Penis?

I have a small red spot on the penile shaft. It has been there for around a year now, but I have gotten tested and ruled out for stds. The spot is not painful or sensitive in anyway, nor has it grown or gotten smaller in this time. Is it harmful, and is there anyway for me to get rid of it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,
Understand your concern.
If it is not change in color, pain sensitivity,no blood: it is harm less.
But you have to examine it repeatedly.
Following are the causes of your problem:
1. Fordyce spots
These are tiny brown/red spots, found on the head of the penis or the shaft.
They are normal minute sebaceous glands and are just part of the natural structure of many penises.
There's absolutely no need for any treatment.

2. Pearly papules
Pearly penile papules are also normal. They are very small bumps, the same colour as your skin, but with a pearly appearance. They usually appear around the glans (head) of the penis in a row.
they don't need any treatment.
But if you really want them removed for cosmetic reasons, this is sometimes possible.
3.Hair follicles

Hope this may help you.
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
