What Causes Small Hard Lumps On Thighs And Abdomen?

I am obese and have multiple firm, mostly pea size non-painful nodules under my skin, noticeably on my thighs and abd. I have a larger, softer one on the posterior side of my arm above my elbow which is tender when pressed on which I have had for years and has not notably changed which I believe is a lipoma. Would like to know what the hard nodules are, I have had these for years since I gained so much wt., approx. 100lb over 6 years? Thanks

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Non-tender nodules under the skin can be due to lipomas or any other soft tissue lesions.
Soft tissue lesions can be painful also.
An aspiration cytology of the lesions is required for their management.
Aspiration cytology is a office procedure wherein a needle is inserted into the lesions, cellular material is aspirated and spread on glass slides.
The aspirated cells are stained with appropriate stains and studied microscopically.
The nature of the lesions will be determined and thus management can be planned.

Thanks and take care
