What Causes Small Glands On The Back Of The Tongue?

I just came from a yearly checkup, and the doctor said that I have some small glands in the back of my tongue that appear to be swollen. It feels like a minor sore throat but has been present for several months, and I will wake up in the middle of the night choking, and gagging due to saliva or possibly nasal drainage. Could this be something serious? I feel fine other than the slight sore throat.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

As per your complain it seems like sore throat, raised bumps at the back of tongue and chocking at night might be due to acid reflux in which acid from stomach gets refluxed into food pipe and throat leading to chemical injury to throat, excessive mucous formation, sore throat, choking and gagging..
You should consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and endoscopy can help in confirming the diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
If there is acid reflux he can advise you to take proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole, antacids, taking short frequent meals, moderate exercise, weight loss, take dinner 2 hours before sleeping, avoid spicy food, drink plenty of water and sleep with head and chest slightly raised as compared to feet..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
