What Causes Skin Itchiness On Face And Dry Chapped Lips?

I have been taking Coversyl (Perindopril) for 5 months and I have had trouble with skin on my face it is like dermatitis very dry lips that are peeling and patches on cheeks under my eyes and very itchy neck and one elbow. I have used my Clairns skin care for at least 30 years and never had trouble before. This rash had started about 4 months ago and I went to the doctors and he gave me advantan ointment which did help to start with in January but this week it has flared up and really itchy. Went to chemist today because I couldn t stand the dry itchy feeling and they said to use Dermavine because it was so dry . When I put it on my skin it was stinging but it s been half an hour and it s not as bad but I can still feel the itching slightly . Could this be caused from the blood pressure tablets. I also take Pariot thankyou

Hi Dear,

Welcome to Health Care Magic Team.

Understanding your concern about health.

Skin itchiness along with burning sensation and dry and chapped lips is probably because of adverse effects of medicine Coversyl. As Coversyl is an ACE inhibitor which is used for treatment of hypertension.

Initially you will be very fine after taking this medicine but eventually it will start causing shortness of breath, difficulty in breathing, swallowing and start causing extreme dryness and swelling of face, lips , mouth, extremities . Dry mouth is a major side effect of it. It can even cause severe allergic reaction on face , tongue with blister formation as well.

Pariot another medicine your is effective for GERD and because of stomach acids it also increases probability of thrush in mouth. Yes, blood pressure tablets can cause symptoms of dry skin, chapping of lips and burning sensation.

I would suggest you to go to your physician and tell all the symptoms you facing now so that you can be transferred to alternative course of medications considering your symptoms.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
