What Causes Sinus Problem After Molar Teeth Removal?

constant sinus problems stemming from 2 molar extraction on july 2nd last year, dental student broke root tip off and left it in my sinus without telling me..have been sick all of these months and now i have to basically live with a neti-pot as food keeps regurgitating into my nasal passages and either out my nostril, or down my throat or sometimes into my windpipe, making me choke..i am petrified and have no one to help me, on social security, am 65, female, multiple conditions..went to dental school to have ONE root canal and left 8 hours later in this condition...please help me with info that i cannot get from local primary care and/or oral surgeon who wants to perform 3 surgical procedures, 1 of which he must put me under general anesthesia and be intubated...i am very frightened and beside myself...

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

It is really unfortunate that you are suffering from so much of problem.

In case the root piece is moved into the sinus the first thing that has to be done is to get it removed followed by closing of the sinus perforation followed by antibiotics and painkillers.

For removal of root piece it depends on the location of root piece into the sinus.
If possible to remove it through the socket iodoform gauze can be placed inside the sinus through the socket to remove the root piece..
If not possible a surgical procedure is carried out in which a hole is drilled through the jaw bone and root is removed from the sinus.

The next part is that in order to close the perforation caused due to removal of teeth it can be done either by placing of gelfoam into the socket and placing stitches on the gum flaps by bringing them close together..

Slowly and gradually the opening gets closed..

You should immediately visit an ORAL SURGEON and get evaluated for the exact condition f the sinus and get treated accordingly..

Hoping you get well soon.

Thanks and regards..
