What Causes Sinus Infection Along With Mood Changes And Agitation?

Hello,
My 20 year old son has had sinus problems for over a year now. He was diagnosed with having a severe sinus infection, and the antibiotics did not seem to help. He tries to eat healthy/green in order to aid his body in fighting this. My concern is with his mood changes, very irritable, agitated, and even explosive anger later which is not like him. I know there may be other reasons for this, however, I am wondering if any of this can be related to his sinus condition?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if he is suffering from severe sinus congestion that might be leading to nasal congestion, facial pain and discomfort, post nasal drip, generalized weakness, difficulty to breathe through nose due to nasal stuffiness and if it is going on since an year it might be adding up to his anxiety and he might be feeling irritated leading to Panic attacks and showing of tantrums..

I would suggest you to consult an ENT expert and get him re-evaluated and he can also be advised investigations like PNS view x ray or MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

-He can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine and decongestant nasal sprays like those containing Xylometazoline..
-To relieve his anxiety and irritability if it is going out of control he can be given anti anxiety medicines like Lorazepam, Alprazolam etc..
-Do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in his room..
-Steroid nasal sprays can also be advised..
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
-Do warm compresses around nostrils..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
