What Causes Shortness Of Breath While Walking When Diagnosed With Sjögren S Syndrome?

I have been noticing over the last few weeks that I am getting short of breath when walking, especially up hill. The person I am walking with is not experiencing any difficulty walking and talking while doing this. I have always walked a couple of miles every day for the last six years. This winter in Boston with the exceptional snow fall limited my walking from January to March. I have sjogrens syndrome and hashimoto s thyroiditis. I am a 54 year old female.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Definitely, shortness of breathing may be a sign of hypothyroidism due to any cause. Also Sjogren's syndrome may cause breathing difficulty, more in females, above 60 years of age. In my opinion, you should consult your doctor for re-evaluation of your disease. Also any heart pathology should be ruled out. You may also need broncho-dilators for relief in your symptoms under guidance of your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
