What Causes Shortness Of Breath While Suffering From Anemia?
Yes, thank you. My Hgb is 8.9. It has slowly drifted downward without iron supplements. I am feeling very weak and ill and short of breath with my pulse ox barely making it to 90, and if I talk or move, my pulse ox quickly drops. My legs have also been swollen off and on. At what point do I need a transfusion? - Ms.Matt

Shortness of breath is typical symptom of any kind of anaemia and when anemia is healed,this symptom should disappear as well.So the exact cause of anemia should be found first and then treated. Hemoglobin of 90 is still not indication for transfusions and only 80 or less may be. I suggest to take iron supplements till anemia cause is found.
