What Causes Shortness Of Breath, Swelling And Pain In Legs After Aortic Valve Replacement?
My husband had aortic valve replacement 12 weeks ago and he is having shortness of breath swelling in his legs and no energy. What could be causing this ? He doesn t seem any better off than he was before the surgery. He is also having excruciating pain in his legs.
Hi WELCOME TO HCM. i understand your query and concern. Aortic valve replacement in the post surgical period is associated with some leak in the postoperative period, which can contribute to symptoms of shortness of breath and swelling of legs. This could be due to paravalvular leak of blood back into the systemic circulation.I advise you to have a screening 2 dimensional echo to assess the degree of paravalvular leak and guide you further for the treatment part.DRugs like Diuretics will help to eliminate the congestive symptoms.Definitive treatment consists of repair of paravalvular leak.Consult Your cardiologist for further queries.Post your further doubts if any. Thank you.
