What Causes Shortness Of Breath In A 11 Year Old Boy?
My 11 year old is short of breath and describes it as not being able to get enough air. He has had some chest discomfort as well. His o2 satuation is 99% at rest and drops to 91% after climbing 3 flights of stairs. He is overweight for his age. He tells me although we saw a doctor today and came home with an Inhaler, that he knows something is wrong.
**If needed afterward, I may advise Bronchoscopy but no need to do now.
Some questions to ask:
1. Is there any typical sound comes when breaths in and out?
2. Is there any pain he complains about while breathing?
3. Is there cough or sputum coming out?
4. Is there any other complains?
5. Does any of your family member have any kind of respiratory problem?
6. Does he have any fever?
With all the results and answers, please post another question, I may follow your problem later. There are ample of treatments available.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
