What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Swollen Ankles While On Pradaxa?

I had a TIA yesterday. I am taking Pradaxa and have been for about a week. I take one 75 mg at 10 am and one at 10 pm. I am 86 years old. Tonight I get short of breath when I lie down. My right ankle swelled yesterday and is still swollen. Should I take another Pradaxa now (5:00 am) ,? pulse is 44 and oxygen absorption is 98. My breathing is normal if I remain seated upright. My cardiologist will not be in her office today but will be tomorrow. Should I just sit up until tomorrow?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Most important thing is to be in a position where you feel OK. If the shortness of breath gets worse, you should call 911. Unilateral swelling of the ankle seems odd, but could be a sign of deep venous thrombosis. If you feel even the slightest bit uneasy, call 911.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
